Skoda India has commenced series production of the Kylaq, its smallest SUV, which went on sale recently. The brand has also announced a 30 percent increase in production capacity at its Chakan plant to enable Kylaq manufacturing.
- The Chakan plant is home to MQB A0 IN products
- Skoda Kylaq's first batch consists of 33,333 units
- Kylaq bookings have crossed the 10,000 mark
Skoda Kylaq is built alongside Kushaq, Taigun, Virtus, Slavia
The Kylaq sits on the tried-and-tested MQB A0 IN platform, making it the fifth model to use this platform, following the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, as well as the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. The heavily localised platform is one of the reasons for Kylaq’s aggressive pricing of Rs 7.89 lakh. Additionally, Skoda announced that it has also added 10 percent more capacity to its supplier base for faster procurement of components.
Chakan plant's yearly capacity is now at 2.55 lakh units
To accommodate the Kylaq, Skoda has increased production capacity by 30 percent at the Chakan plant. As we reported earlier, Skoda India plans to produce around 50,000 to 70,000 units of the Kylaq annually, depending on demand. This translates to a monthly production target of approximately 4,000 to 5,800 units. Initially, the Kylaq will be sold in the domestic market; however, Skoda will also export the compact SUV to achieve better economies of scale.
Skoda Kylaq booking, test drive, delivery schedule
Since the Kylaq's bookings opened on December 2, it has gathered 10,000 orders. Skoda has announced that it plans to deliver the first batch of 33,333 units of the Kylaq by May 2025. Of these, around 3,000 units of the entry-level Kylaq variant have already been sold out for the first batch.
Skoda India has confirmed that the Kylaq will be available at showrooms starting January 27, 2025, the same day it plans to start deliveries. Customer test drives are expected to commence around the same time. The company will display the Kylaq at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Show (Auto Expo 2025) in New Delhi, which begins on January 17.
