Tata Motors recently launched the Nexon AMT in a single top-spec XZA+ trim, priced at Rs 9.41 lakh for the petrol and Rs 10.3 lakh for the diesel (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the Nexon AMT is priced competitively even in its top-spec guise, Tata Motors has already begun work on the market introduction of an AMT gearbox in the mid-spec XTA and XMA variants. This means that the price tag of the Nexon AMT could drop even further once the more affordable variants are introduced.
The upcoming Nexon AMT (XMA and XZA) are likely to carry the same features as the corresponding manual counterparts (XM and XZ). So you can expect the XMA to come with features like dual-tone wheel covers, remote-control locking, power windows for all doors, an infotainment system with 4 speakers, steering-mounted controls for audio, phone and voice, a 12V power outlet, an MID with a real-time fuel indicator and rear parking sensors.
The Tata Nexon AMT XZA will get all the features from the top-end XZA+ variant, but will miss out on the PEPS smartkey with push-button start, DRLs, alloy wheels, a 60:40-split folding rear seat, front and rear fog lamps and a rear defogger. The XMA and XZA will also have the AMT-specific features like smart hill-assist and the creep function.
Like the XZA+ variant, the XMA and the XZA variants will likely be offered with both engine options – the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel. Currently the price difference between manual and AMT models of the XZ+ variant is Rs. 60,201 for the petrol and Rs. 70,200 for the diesel. Going by the aforementioned price difference, the lower-spec XMA variants could be priced at around Rs 7.51 lakh for the AMT mated to the petrol engine and Rs 8.54 lakh when paired with the diesel motor. Similarly, the higher-spec XZA versions could cost around Rs 8.59 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs 9.69 lakh for the diesel. (All expected prices, ex-showroom, Delhi)
The affordable variants of the Nexon AMT would take on the likes of the recently launched Vitara Brezza diesel AMT which is available in three variants. On the other hand, the Ford EcoSport automatic is available only with a petrol automatic configuration. Additionally, Mahindra offers the TUV300 and the Nuvosport with a diesel-AMT gearbox option.
