Toyota launched the Urban Cruiser Taisor in India about a month back, with prices ranging between Rs 7.74 lakh-13.04 lakh (ex-showroom). While it’s too soon for sales figures, a quick check with dealers revealed interesting details.

    1. Taisor turbo-petrol constitutes 45 percent of all bookings
    2. Cafe White is the colour most opted for
    3. CNG variant has only garnered 15 percent bookings

So far, the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine has garnered a little over 45 percent of the bookings, which is in stark contrast to the Fronx where it accounted for just 10 percent.

This could be due to the petrol version of the Taisor being priced at a premium over the corresponding Fronx variant, and the turbo versions being priced identically; Toyota possibly chose to bear the cost of Maruti's powertrain and not pass it on to the buyer. About 55 percent of the demand in the turbo is for the manual gearbox, and Toyota says the 6-speed torque converter auto (available with 1.0-litre turbo) is also seeing good response.

The Cafe White colour is the most popular choice in the Taisor, followed by Gaming Grey, Sportin Red and Lucent Orange. Dealers also tell us that the higher V AT and V MT variants commanded a majority of the bookings, followed by the S+ AMT.

The CNG version is only available on the entry-level E variant that’s garnered 15 percent of the bookings. The Taisor is currently Toyota’s most affordable SUV in India and competes with the Maruti Fronx, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and the Mahindra XUV 3XO.
