Hi, I have a Hyundai i10, 2011 model, that I have used for around 90000 km. My average running is around 7000 km. I want a car with good average, boot space and proper safety. I intend to keep it for the next 15 years. My budget is around 13 lakhs. I have shortlisted 3XO AX5 petrol manual, Kylaq Signature Plus and Victoris VXI. Kindly advise.

With a budget of 13 lakhs, we would recommend the Skoda Kylaq, the Signature+ MT variant, which will give a good balance of performance, comfort, space, safety and features.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO has many features, but it scores low on real-world fuel efficiency, and you will have to stretch your budget to around 14 lakhs on road for the Maruti Suzuki Victoris VXI.

I am a first-time driver planning to buy my own car. I really like the Skoda brand, so I am considering the Skoda Kushaq Signature Automatic. My city usage will be very minimal, and I need a suggestion on whether I am choosing the right car. I am 43 years old and want to know what is better for a first-time driver: a manual car or an automatic transmission. I am more concerned about safety and reliability, and my budget is ₹12 lakh. What is the best car, as per expert suggestion?

The Skoda Kylaq is one of the better compact SUVs in the market, so if you are inclined towards it is certainly worth buying.

Being an SUV, the elevated seating position, which gives you good visibility of the road, is useful for first-time car buyers like yourself. We would advise you to opt for an automatic transmission because it will make your life behind the wheel a lot easier.

The Kylaq’s 6-speed automatic is quite smooth and responsive, and paired to the 1.0 litre TSI engine, performance is effortless too. In terms of reliability, the Skoda doesn’t have the best reputation for service, but we don’t think that should be a deal breaker.

With its 5-star crash rating, the Kylaq is very safe and known for its tough build.

My age is 72. The average driving is about 1,000km per month. I am looking for a good, safe, small automatic car for self-driving, including occasional long drives across the country. I find the Innova too big to park when I drive. Please help me choose a car under Rs 15 lakh.

There are many automatic options within your budget. Here are some models you could look at -

Skoda Kylaq: It's got a punchy petrol engine, smooth auto gearbox and has a tough build. It's not the most spacious at the back, but that should not be a deal breaker for you.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza: The Brezza automatic is a sensible pick. It's easy to drive and, while unexciting, the engine gets the job done and scores well on efficiency. The Brezza also has a practical interior. What really works in favour of the Brezza is a hassle-free ownership and service experience that you get with Maruti Suzuki
Honda Elevate: In case you need something larger, the Honda Elevate CVT in V trim is also an option worth considering. It's got a spacious interior and has a robust suspension. However, the Elevate CVT is best enjoyed with a mild driving style.

I own a Grand Vitara Sigma (March 2024), which has run 22,000 km. While I like its ride quality and handling, I’m disappointed with the sheet metal strength, as it gets dented even by small stones and pebbles. My usage is 70% city and 30% highway. Please suggest a petrol car within a ₹12-lakh on-road budget that offers a high driving position, strong build quality, good steering feedback, and solid driving dynamics.

In your budget, a strong option to consider is the Skoda Kyliaq Signature+ Manual. It is expected to be priced at around Rs 12 lakh on-road.

It has a 5-star BNCAP safety rating and feels solidly built. It is also among the best to drive in the segment, with good handling and a comfortable ride. You also get a height-adjustable driver seat in the base variant, so at its highest setting, you’ll have a clear and commanding view ahead, regardless of your height.
Just keep in mind the size difference. Compared to your Grand Vitara midsize SUV, the Kyliaq is a sub-4-metre SUV, so it will feel smaller in overall footprint and cabin width.

I own a Dzire petrol car and want to replace it with a new petrol car. Please suggest the best petrol car in the ₹10-12 lakh range.

Without knowing your exact requirements, it would be hard to recommend one. If you've had a good experience with your Maruti Dzire, it might be worth considering the new-gen Dzire, which comes feature-packed. It also has received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Plus, this Maruti car also gets a smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or AMT auto gearbox options.
If you prefer a hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20 are good options in this budget. As for compact SUVs, there are a plethora of options available like the Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and more.

I bought a 2014 Audi A4 (99,000 km) for ₹9.5L and spent another ₹1.5L on a major service. The car has been running perfectly for the last 6 months. I’m worried about its resale value after 2 years. My budget for a new automatic car is around ₹12L, but I’m unsure if anything in that range will match the comfort and driving feel of the Audi. Should I keep the Audi for a few more years or sell it now? Also, is it realistic to find another well-maintained luxury car in this price range later?

Your Audi A4 is over 10 years old, and as good as it may be to drive, it will not fetch great resale value.
On the flipside, no car in the Rs 10-12 lakh budget will give the power and feel of a well maintained luxury car. If you don’t mind the potential degradation in resale value, you could keep your A4 for longer.
If you are more inclined to a new car purchase in the near future, you could consider the Skoda Kylaq AT. It's got a punchy engine and smooth gearbox, handles well and also delivers with a tough build. It feels like a European car and something we think you would value.

I am confused between the second-top variants of the Sonet and Kylaq. Both have good brand names and seem decent for my daily 10 to 20 km city drives. Which one should I pick? The new Venue is quite expensive, and the Brezza feels too boring. I also want to keep maintenance in mind.

The Skoda Kylaq is a bit nicer to drive, and its engine also delivers stronger performance. Its ride comfort is also a bit better than Kia's. Skoda's maintenance costs are at par with rivals, and parts replacement prices too are competitive due to heavy localization.
You could also refer to the service cost calculator on Skoda's website to get an idea of how much it is likely to cost you to service the Kylaq. Between the two, the Kylaq is a better pick.

I am planning to buy a car. My maximum budget is Rs 10.5-11 lakh on-road. I am looking for an SUV with good performance, 5-star safety, and decent mileage. My monthly usage will be around 500 to 800 km, with a 1,000 km trip every three months. Should I choose diesel or petrol? I like turbo engines. My shortlist includes the XUV3XO Diesel or Petrol MX2, and the Skoda Kylaq Signature. I am concerned about Skoda’s maintenance costs. Are there other options?

Your monthly usage isn't much, hence a diesel might not justify the premium it commands over a corresponding turbo-petrol. Between the two options shortlisted, the Skoda Kylaq feels a bit nicer and more fun to drive. While the Mahindra XUV 3XO isn't too far behind in terms of ride comfort and handling, it is the one to go for should you need to travel with 4 or 5 adults often, since it is more spacious. Otherwise, the Kylaq is a good option.

As far as maintenance goes, the Skoda's upkeep costs are similar to most other compact SUVs, and even parts are priced competitively due to the high levels of localization. Furthermore, Skoda has provided a service cost calculator on its website to give you an idea of how much you are likely to pay per service.

Asked by: JAYANT P NAGAVKARon Dec 1, 2025

I am a senior citizen and have been driving manual cars for several decades. I am now looking for a compact automatic SUV-type car (no AMT) with a high safety rating, easy city handling, and the ability to do weekly road trips of about 200 km. The car should also offer good mileage, and either CNG or petrol automatic is fine. Once or twice a year, I also go on long multi-day road trips. Please suggest a suitable car.

The Skoda Kylaq would be a good option for you. The car is compact and thus easy to use in the city, while its ride and handling are safe and stable for your occasional highway runs too. It's safe and secured a 5-star rating in the BNCAP tests. The automatic gearbox is a torque converter unit, which is the smoothest type of autobox you can get this side of an EV.
The only negative is a cramped rear for tall adults; if this is an issue for you, consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. While the new model is yet to be crash tested, the previous version, on which it is based, had received a strong 4-star safety rating.
S
Asked by: Sudhagaron Nov 26, 2025

I want a torque-converter petrol automatic for daily commuting of around 40 km (mostly highway but often with city-like traffic congestion) and bimonthly hilly trips. I have been driving my friend’s Kylaq frequently since its launch. My heart says Kylaq, but my brain suggests the Brezza. Decent mileage, handling, and reliability matter. Please suggest.

Yes, the Skoda Kylaq is the better as far as driving pleasure goes, while the Brezza has the Maruti advantage of good after-sales service, it's also more spacious inside, especially so at the rear, where the Kylaq has much less room.
So if rear space is important, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the way to go. If not, the Kylaq will do just fine and buying one isn't a risk as Skoda have made improvements to their service network and the cars are quite reliable too.
