I am planning to upgrade from a Wagon-R to an SUV and am confused between the Creta, Grand Vitara, and Hyryder. I am looking for good mileage, comfort, and solid build quality. Which of these would be the best fit?
If you want mileage, comfort, and good-built quality, you can go for Maruti Suzuki Victoris. It scored 5-star in B-NCAP, was launched recently, is feature-rich, and gets a hybrid powertrain that will give you better mileage. Though the strong Hybrid Victoris is on the pricier side.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and subsequently Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are expected to get an update soon, and that means your car will start looking dated very soon. Keeping these in mind, Maruti Suzuki Victoris is a better bet.
But if you want to choose only from the three you have mentioned, then go with the Hyundai Creta. The 2022 Creta tested by GNCAP scored 3 stars, but since then, Hyundai has launched the facelift and has also reinforced the exoskeleton. The facelift has not been tested by any crash test agency yet. This Hyundai car also offers a roomier cabin compared to the Grand Vitara or Hyryder.

I want to buy a new SUV. Which is better, the Brezza or the Grand Vitara? Also, which transmission is better: manual or automatic?
While the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Grand Vitara essentially belong to different segments, there is a price overlap. Without more details, we assume you are considering like-priced models of the duo. From the Grand Vitara line-up, that means the standard 1.5-litre petrol engine, which, incidentally, is shared with the Brezza.
While the larger Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara does have a more upmarket air about it, we'd feel that opting for a better-equipped version of the Brezza would be a better use of your money. For reference, for the same money that you could get a fully-loaded Brezza ZXI Plus, you'll get a mid-spec Grand Vitara. The added features on the Brezza do count for a lot and your experience with the car.
What also strengthens the Brezza's case is that, despite being a smaller vehicle, it feels airier than the Grand Vitara at the back. In terms of performance, there is little real-world difference, since both models use the same engine.
If you live in a city and drive often on congested roads, an automatic would be the one we'd recommend. That said, manual gearbox versions of the Brezza and Grand Vitara are easy to live with too, thanks to their light clutches and smooth gearshifts.

Hi Team, we are a family of five with a monthly usage of around 1,000 km, of which nearly 90% is city driving. I am confused between the Hyundai Venue HX8 1.0 turbo-petrol DCT and the Maruti Grand Vitara Smart Hybrid Alpha Optional manual. The price difference between the two is around ₹1 lakh after current offers. Please suggest a better option.
The Hyundai Venue, with its turbo-petrol engine and dual-clutch transmission, is more fun to drive and offers stronger performance along with the convenience of an automatic gearbox. So if your daily usage includes a lot of stop-and-go traffic, this could be a deciding factor for you. This Hyundai car is also equipped with a better audio system, and its relatively smaller size makes it a touch easier to park as well.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, on the other hand, offers light controls and a refined yet responsive 1.5-litre petrol engine. Its 5-speed manual gearbox is among the best in the segment. It also feels a touch more adept while dealing with bad roads, and its overall ride quality is better.
Yes, you are getting a larger car that's a bit more mature, but you are also paying more. So if you don't mind spending that extra amount, and you're willing to sacrifice the convenience of an automatic, go for the Maruti car.

I have been driving a Santro for 24 years, and it is still running well. I now plan to change to a 1.5-litre car, either a sedan or an SUV. I am considering the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid Alpha Plus, Honda Elevate ZX, and Creta SX. My usage will be daily solo driving and 2–3 long drives with my family of five. Comfort with family on long trips is a priority, and low running cost and maintainability are important for daily use. Above all, good looks matter. Please suggest the best choice among these.
According to your requirement and among the options you have selected, we would suggest you to go for the Hyundai Creta SX. It scores well above the other options because of the space that it offers.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara's second row is good for 2, and a squeeze for 3. Honda Elevate's central console protrudes prominently in the second row, compromising rear passenger space.

Is the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Alpha AT a good car to buy as a second owner considering the odometer shows only 14,000 km and the asking price is ₹14 lakh?
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is a good choice to buy as a second owner, and a price of Rs 14 lakh for the Alpha AT variant is reasonable.
It is a spacious and comfortable SUV, and the 1.5 litre petrol engine is smooth and refined. The automatic gearbox is also smooth and responsive, making it well suited to city use.
The only downside is that the naturally aspirated engine is not very powerful. As a result, it can feel slow to build speed on the highway, which can make overtaking a bit tricky.

Which car should I buy with a budget of around ₹15 lakh if I want a petrol manual variant with a panoramic sunroof, good safety and mileage, and should I wait for the Kia Seltos 2026 or choose between the Toyota Hyryder and Grand Vitara, considering I can stretch my budget by only Rs. 50,000?
If ₹15 lakh is a strict budget and a sunroof is a must, we suggest you consider either the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder or the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. With year-end offers currently available, you can negotiate and secure a good deal.
The new Kia Seltos is an attractive option as well, but at this price point, the variant you get may not include a sunroof, and the Seltos is not particularly known for fuel efficiency. That said, if you are keen on the updated Seltos, it may be worth waiting for the price announcement on 2nd January.

I am looking to buy an SUV with a budget of up to Rs 22 to 23 lakh. My must-haves are a minimum 3-star safety rating, excellent suspension, at least 13 kmpl fuel efficiency with a 60% city and 40% highway usage pattern, the ability to pre-cool or pre-heat the car before entering it, and a fuss-free ownership experience.
The Maruti Suzuki Victoris hybrid seems to fit the bill. It has been awarded 5 stars by BNCAP for its crashworthiness. Ride comfort is excellent, and it handles well, too. And with the hybrid powertrain, you can expect excellent fuel efficiency, significantly higher than 13kpl (average).
It also gets an option to pre-cool or pre-heat the vehicle, and being a Maruti Suzuki car, the ownership experience is likely to be fuss-free. Alternatively, you may consider the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid or Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara hybrid, which share the same platform and boast of similar strengths.

My wife doesn’t like the comfort of the Jimny - the seats hurt her back and neck, and she dislikes the bouncy ride on highways. She wants to sell it and get something like a Creta or an Innova for comfort in the city and smooth highway drives. I want a vehicle that can handle 4x4 duties (winter Spiti trips) and take a beating. Is there a car that can strike that balance, ideally under ₹25 lakh? We drive in the city about 75% of the time and take highway trips 25% of the time.
Yes, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is very adept off-road, thanks to Suzuki's All-Grip Pro 4X4 system, which also features a low ratio. However, it does feel bouncy on regular roads - just like most 4X4s. Thus, we would recommend you look at the all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara / Toyota Hyryder or the Maruti Suzuki Victoris.
These SUVs use Suzuki All-Grip Select, which does not have a low ratio but has a Snow mode and also allow you to lock AWD. For the winter Spiti trails, this should suffice. Moreover, these SUVs will be far better in terms of ride comfort in the city and on the highway.

Hi, I'm planning to buy my first car. I drive about 1500-1800 km per month (80% city). My budget is about 15 -17 lakhs. I'm so confused between Nexon, XUV 3XO, Venue, and all of the diesel automatic variants. I'm open to hybrid variants as well. My priorities are: safety, fuel efficiency, comfort & features. Also thinking about Sierra & Duster of automatic variants. Please suggest a good one. Thank you.
Since you drive 50–60km a day (about 1,500–1,800km a month), it’s understandable that you want something efficient and economical to run. A hybrid would normally make sense, but the Maruti Suzuki strong hybrids (Grand Vitara / Victoris) and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder sit above your budget. More importantly, with your running, it would still take years to recover the higher upfront cost of the hybrid powertrain.
The upcoming Renault Duster is promising, but will launch only with petrol engines — no diesel and no hybrid — so fuel efficiency won’t match a diesel automatic in daily city use. As for the Tata Sierra, it’s a very appealing SUV thanks to its design, space, and premium cabin. However, the 1.5 diesel in the Sierra isn’t the most refined or punchy in the segment, and the pricing of the higher variants, especially the autos, will stretch well past the upper end of your budget. Also, the Sierra is more of a lifestyle SUV than an efficiency-focused one.
Given your budget and priorities — safety, fuel efficiency, comfort, and features — a diesel compact SUV still fits best. Rear-seat space is not a big concern since you’ll mostly be driving yourself, so you don’t need to pay extra for a larger mid-size SUV.
Among your shortlist, the recently launched Hyundai Venue 1.5 diesel automatic is the most balanced choice. It offers:

- Strong, relaxed performance
- Smooth and city-friendly automatic
- Long feature list that rivals larger SUVs

My monthly driving will be around 1,000 km, and I will be doing 2 to 3 highway trips a year. I am looking for a car between Rs 15 to 17 lakh. I have test-driven the hybrid versions of the Hyryder and Victoris and liked both. Now I am in a dilemma about which one to purchase. The Hyryder is a tried and tested product, whereas the Victoris is entirely new in the market. Kindly help. My main priorities are fuel efficiency and safety.
While the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has been in the market for longer, it is important to realise that the Maruti Victoris is the same car under the skin, as is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. All three SUVs use the same platform and indeed the same strong hybrid powertrain. It really comes down to which brand you prefer and which sales and service infrastructure is more convenient for you.
That said, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the newest of the three, and as such has some feature improvements, like a new-gen infotainment system and a more modern set of full-digital dials and ADAS with Level 2 autonomy, although these are only on the top-spec versions.
