Tata Motors opened bookings for the Safari and Harrier facelifts for a token amount of Rs 25,000 earlier this month, when the two SUVs were revealed.
Tata Safari facelift design
Unlike before, where the Harrier and Safari looked nearly identical, the Safari is slightly more differentiated than its 5-seater sibling. The upper portion of the new split grille is now bigger than the Harrier, and it gets a faux skid plate finished in silver. Even the headlamp housing in the bumper is bigger than Harrier’s, and the Safari gets a full-width LED light bar that acts as the daytime running lamps (DRLs).
Like the Harrier, not much has changed in profile except for a new design for the alloy wheels. At the back, the tail-lamps are in a similar housing, but get a new light signature. The rear bumper has also been redesigned with rectangular protrusions housing the reflectors and reverse lights.
Tata Safari facelift interior, features, colours
Inside, however, it isn’t all that different compared to the Harrier and gets a similar dashboard layout, except for a different finish for the insets. It also gets two touchscreen sizes – 10.25-inch and 12.3-inch, depending on the trim – like the Harrier. Other features include a touch-based panel for the HVAC controls, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a new four-spoke steering wheel with a backlit Tata Motors logo, a new drive selector for automatic variants, a rotary knob for the drive selector with a digital display, dual-zone climate control, ventilated first and second-row seats, a 10-speaker JBL-tuned sound system, rear window shades, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof and more.
Safety features on the Safari include 7 airbags (6 airbags standard across the range), ADAS, hill hold control, three-point seat belts with reminders for all passengers and more.
Tata Safari facelift powertrains, trims, colours
Under the hood, the Safari remains unchanged and comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 170hp and 350Nm of torque, mated to 6-speed manual automatic gearboxes. The automatic gearbox is only available from the Adventure+ variant onwards. It also gets three terrain response modes – Normal, Rough and Wet – and three driving modes (Eco, City and Sport).
Tata Motors has ditched the older naming system to adopt new ‘Persona-based’ trim names. The Safari now gets four core trims – Smart, Pure, Adventure and Accomplished – and gets additional packages bundled with various features that have a ‘+’ or ‘A’ suffix.
The Safari is offered in six colours – Cosmic Gold, Galactic Sapphire, Lunar Slate, Stardust Ash, Stellar Frost and Supernova Copper. The Oberon Black colour option is limited only to the Dark edition variants. Like the Nexon and Nexon EV, the trims of the Safari facelift come with their own unique exterior and interior colour options. For instance, the Accomplished trims get the Cosmic Gold colour.
Tata Safari facelift rivals
The Tata Safari facelift continues to rival the MG Hector Plus, the 7-seat Mahindra XUV700, Scorpio N and Hyundai Alcazar.
