“In the month of August, our CNG penetration was close to 34 percent. So, we were able to touch the mark where one in every three vehicles we sold was a CNG model,” said Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer of Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

Maruti Suzuki has been spearheading CNG car and SUV sales in India for many years, and has recorded a 37 percent growth in sales compared to last year. The brand already commands a whopping 73 percent of the CNG car and SUV market in India. It aims to continue pushing sales of CNG vehicles across its vast line-up, which is spread between Arena and Nexa dealer channels.

    1. Maruti is yet to deliver over 1.65 lakh cars, SUVs
    2. Currently, 14 CNG-powered models are on offer
    3. Aims to sell over 6 lakh CNG vehicles in FY25

Maruti Suzuki currently has close to 1,65,000 bookings across all models. The CNG-powered Ertiga, Brezza, and Dzire are driving growth for the brand in the CNG segment. Maruti currently has 14 CNG-powered models on offer. “We have grown by 28 percent from April to August. Our numbers are going up month after month. In August, we almost touched 50,000 bookings. Our major focus is now on all models and to cater to the customer based on their business needs,” he adds.

As part of its strategy to reduce its carbon footprint, Maruti Suzuki aims to sell over 6 lakh CNG vehicles in FY25, matching the entire market's CNG sales in FY24. Achieving this target would represent a 30 percent increase from the 4.5 lakh units sold by Maruti in FY24.

Currently, Maruti offers CNG variants in models such as the Alto, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Baleno, Fronx, and Brezza. The new-generation Swift may also receive a CNG variant soon.
