Maruti Suzuki has showcased the Brezza CNG SUV at the ongoing Auto Expo. The SUV will now get two fuel options since the discontinuation of the diesel back in 2020. We had previously reported that Maruti Suzuki is working on a CNG version of the Brezza back in January 2022.
- Brezza CNG likely to get automatic and manual gearbox options
- Will get the same powertrain as the Ertiga CNG
- CNG expected to cost Rs 95,000 more than petrol counterpart
Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG: engine, gearbox details
The upcoming Brezza CNG is likely to be powered by the same 1.5-litre K15C DualJet engine that also does duty in the CNG version of the Ertiga MPV. In the Ertiga, this engine produces 100hp and 136Nm in petrol-only mode and 88hp and 121.5Nm in CNG mode. The Brezza CNG, therefore, is expected to showcase similar output figures as well.

Maruti claims the Ertiga CNG has a fuel efficiency of 26.11km/kg, and the Brezza CNG's figure could be similar, or better, as the latter will be lighter than the Ertiga. When it comes to gearboxes, we had reported previously that the Brezza CNG is expected to get an automatic option along with the manual. This will make it the first CNG-powered model in India to be equipped with an automatic transmission.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG: design, variants, and features
The Brezza CNG will see no changes on the outside, apart from the addition of the S-CNG badge that’s present on other Maruti CNG models. However, boot space will be reduced in comparison to the petrol counterpart due to the CNG tank.
On the inside, the Brezza CNG will sport an all-black interior. Similar to other Maruti CNG models, the Brezza CNG is expected to be offered in the mid-spec VXi and ZXi variants, and sport features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartPlay Pro+, voice assistant, connected car tech with OTA updates, start/stop button, six airbags and a rear-view camera.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG: expected pricing and rivals
The Brezza CNG is expected to cost Rs 95,000 more than its petrol manual counterpart that currently starts at Rs 7.99 lakh and tops out at Rs 12.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Similarly, the Brezza CNG automatic is also expected to see the same price difference when compared to the standard petrol automatic which starts at Rs 10.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Brezza CNG will compete against other compact SUVs like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and the Tata Nexon, none of which have a CNG option.
