Maruti Suzuki has reintroduced the Brezza with its mild-hybrid tech in manual form. In July 2023, Maruti had silently rejigged the Brezza range and also took the opportunity to remove the mild-hybrid tech from the manual versions of the compact SUV. The company has now relaunched the fuel-saving tech, albeit on higher-spec variants only, with prices starting at Rs 11.05 lakh.
- Brezza MT ZXI, ZXI+ priced at Rs 11.05 lakh-12.48 lakh
- Mild-hybrid tech sees fuel efficiency increase to 19.89kpl
- Brezza now more frugal than Sonet facelift
Maruti Brezza mild hybrid: what’s changed?
2024 Maruti Brezza prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) | ||
---|---|---|
Manual | Automatic | |
LXI | Rs 8.29 lakh | - |
VXI | Rs 9.65 lakh | Rs 11.15 lakh* |
ZXI | Rs 11.05 lakh* | Rs 12.55 lakh* |
ZXI+ | Rs 12.48 lakh* | Rs 13.98 lakh* |
Maruti has opted to have the mild-hybrid tech on the top-spec ZXI and ZXI+ manual variants of Brezza, priced at Rs 11.05 lakh and Rs 12.48 lakh, respectively. As before, the tech is also available on the VXI AT (Rs 11.15 lakh), ZXI AT (Rs 12.55 lakh) and ZXI+ AT (Rs 13.98 lakh) variants.
As can be expected, the fuel efficiency figure of the top-spec Brezza has increased, from 17.38kpl to 19.89kpl. Interestingly, this number is marginally lower than the 20.5kpl figure that the Brezza’s 103hp, K15C engine used to deliver with the mild-hybrid tech, before it was discontinued. The Brezza automatics continue to post an ARAI-rated 19.8kpl. The Brezza also comes in CNG form, though this version does not get mild-hybrid tech, or an automatic option.
Maruti Brezza mild hybrid vs rivals: fuel efficiency
Maruti Brezza vs rivals: Mileage (ARAI) | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Powertrains | Maruti Brezza | Kia Sonet | Maruti Fronx | Tata Nexon |
Petrol-MT | 17.38-19.89kpl | 18.83kpl | 21.79kpl | - |
Petrol-AT | 19.8kpl | - | 22.89kpl (AMT) | - |
Turbo-petrol-MT | - | 18.7kpl | 21.5kpl | 17.44kpl |
Turbo-petrol-MT | - | 19.2kpl | 20.01kpl (AT) | 17.18kpl (AMT)/17.01kpl (DCT) |
What this 2.51kpl boost in ARAI fuel efficiency also means for the Brezza, is that it is now more fuel-efficient than the Kia Sonet, at least in mild-hybrid form. The Maruti Fronx is still the most frugal compact SUV, while the Tata Nexon seems to lag.
