I am a senior citizen looking to buy a new car for mostly local driving in Gurgaon and Delhi. My monthly running is about 500 km and my budget is ₹20–22 lakh. I have shortlisted the Honda Elevate Z CVT, Hyundai Creta AT, and Hyundai Alcazar. Please advise.

The best option, considering your needs and budget, would be the Hyundai Creta with the naturally aspirated engine and CVT gearbox.

The Creta SX Premium CVT offers good driveability in the city thanks to the CVT gearbox and responsive engine, and it has all the necessary features as well.

The advantage of the Creta would be the ride comfort and seat positioning. The seat height is at a comfortable position, making getting in and out easy. The overall visibility and driving manners are effortless, and it would be a good choice to consider.

I currently drive an i10 Nios petrol and cover about 3,000 km per month, roughly 50% on the highway. My budget is ₹20 lakh. We are a family of four and I prefer an automatic with good ground clearance. Which vehicle would you suggest?

Since you have been driving a Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and are used to Hyundai's ecosystem, the natural upgrade would be the Hyundai Creta. It is an excellent SUV that offers a good balance of performance, ease of use and features and holds its value very well. The Hyundai Creta Diesel S(O) AT would be our recommendation as your high running will be better suited to a diesel engine.

The 6-speed automatic gearbox is smooth and convenient in the city and also adept on the highways. Over bad roads, the Creta has a good ground clearance, resulting in added peace of mind.

Hi Autocar, I have booked the Creta King Edition 1.5 Turbo DCT. Now, as the new Kia Seltos is in line for launch, should I wait for it or go ahead with my booked car? When can we expect the delivery of the new-gen Kia Seltos? I am quite impressed by the co-passenger electric seat in the Creta King. Will we get that in the next-gen Kia Seltos?

While we don't have the features list for the new Kia Seltos yet, it is likely that it will get a powered front passenger seat with a boss mode for operation from the rear as well. We will know more when the new Kia Seltos makes its world debut on December 10.
This new-gen Kia car is expected to grow in size, with the price announcement not before January 2026, and deliveries only later in Q1 2026.
Therefore, if you'd prefer to get your car sooner, you might be better off going ahead with your booking of the Hyundai Creta King. It remains the midsize SUV segment benchmark for now and is a well-rounded and fully loaded package.

My monthly driving is around 2,000 km, with 80 percent city usage and 20 percent highway. I want to purchase an SUV for a family of four. I am looking for an economical yet powerful car. I am confused between the Creta SX(O) Diesel AT, Seltos GT Diesel AT, XUV700 AX5 Diesel AT, and Scorpio Z8. Please guide me on what I should buy, as I want a performance-driven car and prefer a diesel over a petrol. The car should be strong in power and handling, and also be feature- and tech-loaded.

The Creta's and Seltos' 1.5-litre diesel engine will be efficient, while the XUV700's and Scorpio N's 2.2-litre diesel will be powerful and punchy.
Since power and handling are priorities, go for the Mahindra XUV700. Further, with twin screens and a large sunroof, among other features, the XUV is well-equipped, and these modern niceties further add to the overall feel-good factor.

I am looking to purchase an SUV for my family. My usage is 1,000 to 2,000 km per month. I am currently considering the Creta SX Premium IVT and the Kia Seltos HTX (O) IVT. Which one would you recommend? I was also planning to look at the Tata Sierra as an option. I am confused about whether to buy the car in December 2025 or January 2026.

We would suggest waiting until January 2026, by which time both the updated Kia Seltos and the new Tata Sierra will be on sale. The Creta remains the most proven, well-rounded midsize SUV in this segment and is still the safest, no-surprises choice for a family car.
However, the Tata Sierra, with its spacious cabin, long feature list, and new petrol engines, along with the refreshed Seltos, which gains more features and variants and is expected to offer better space and value, are both very promising alternatives to the Hyundai Creta and are well worth considering before you make a final decision. So if you want to play it safe, go for the Creta now; if you are open to waiting a bit, the Sierra and new Seltos are certainly worth the wait.

I own a 2017 i20 Sports petrol and want to upgrade to an SUV. I’m a driving enthusiast and use the car for daily office commute as well as long weekend trips, so usage will be mixed. I like the Hyundai Creta and Alcazar but worry about their mileage and modest petrol power. Is there a reliable, feature-packed alternative (not Suzuki) that offers better fuel efficiency and driving enjoyment?

That is a difficult balance to achieve, but two cars come close to your requirements, the Volkswagen Taigun GT 1.5 turbo and the Skoda Kushaq 1.5 TSi

Both use the same engine, and their performance is on par with the Hyundai Creta 1.5 turbo, which already offers strong performance. The advantage of the VW and Skoda engines is cylinder deactivation, which helps significantly on the highway.

When the engine is under low load, it can shut down two of the four cylinders to save fuel and improve efficiency. Both cars are well-equipped, too. We would suggest waiting for the facelift versions, which are expected very soon.

I’m really confused about choosing between the Virtus GT-Line (Carbon Steel Grey matte) and a mid-size SUV like the Creta.

Your usage should determine which car suits you best. The Volkswagen Virtus, being a sedan, is one for keen drivers as it's got punchy turbo petrol engines and a sorted ride and handling balance.

A midsize SUV like the Hyundai Creta, on the other hand, will be better for the family-oriented as it has a more spacious and practical cabin.

Currently, I am using Swift and looking for a new SUV. My regular commuting distance is 1000 km per month, which includes highway and rural roads. Kindly advise me whether the Creta or the Seltos is suitable for me.

The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are mechanically identical, so your choice should boil down to which SUV's exterior and interior you prefer and your proximity to the brand's touchpoints.

It's worth noting, however, that the Seltos gets a heads-up display, which the Creta doesn't, while the Creta gets a 'boss mode' for the front passenger seat, which the Seltos misses out on.

My average monthly commute is 1,200 km across highways and rural roads, and I’m torn between buying a Victoris or a Creta. Please advise.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which will not only be more fuel efficient than the Hyundai Creta, but it also has the nicer-tuned, more absorbent suspension, making it more suited to drive over bad roads. The Creta is a touch more spacious and will be more comfortable if you travel with 5 adults regularly. If not, the Victoris seems to fit your needs better.

Hi team, I am planning to buy a new car before March 2026. My budget is Rs 25 lakh. I have a family of four, and my monthly driving will be around 1,500km. The cars I currently have in mind are listed below. Please suggest the best option from these, or recommend an alternative if required. 1. Hyundai Creta Diesel AT (top-end) 2. Kia Seltos (should I wait for the facelift?) 3. Volkswagen Taigun (wait for facelift) 4. BYD Atto 3 (top model or wait for facelift) 5. Tata Sierra

Given your high usage of 1,500km per month, an electric car is not advisable, and thus we would rule out the BYD Atto 3, which, while an excellent vehicle, is also priced considerably higher than the others you have listed.
Of the remaining cars, we would recommend a diesel, given your usage. That would also rule out the Volkswagen Taigun facelift, which will continue with petrol engines only.
The Tata Sierra has a strong enough diesel engine, which comes with a smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic, but it's quite loud and lacks a strong punch.
While not enough is known about the new-generation Seltos yet, between it and the Hyundai Creta, the former is probably the better bet. It will likely use the same smooth, refined 1.5-litre diesel and 6-speed automatic gearbox, but on the whole, the Kia Seltos is expected to be larger and packed with even more tech. We think it is the one you should hold out for.
