Eurogrip Trailhound SCR tyres review

Eurogrip has rapidly gained traction in the two-wheeler tyre segment and is now the OEM supplier for Aprilia’s RS 457 and Tuono 457. At EICMA last year, it introduced two new Trailhound tyres: the STR and SCR. We tested the latter at the MotoFarm off-road circuit near Bengaluru.

The Trailhound SCRs are designed to balance on-road performance and light off-road capability. They feature a radial structure with a 0-degree steel belt, X-Ply construction reinforced with synthetic fibres and a high-silica compound for improved grip. With an 80/20 tread pattern, they enhance water drainage and traction on gravel. However, our dry test conditions limited the wet-weather evaluation.

The SCRs can tackle mild off-roading and dirt trails but are designed primarily for on-road use.

For the test, we had access to a selection of motorcycles, including the Suzuki V-Strom SX, Royal Enfield Scram 411 and the previous-generation KTM 390 Adventure X. My first ride with the SCRs was on the older KTM 390 Adventure. Right away, it was evident that these tyres are more road-focused. While they offer enough traction for light off-road use and can handle the occasional slide, they aren’t suited for demanding off-road conditions. For serious off-road adventures, more aggressive tyres would be a better choice.

On the tarmac, however, the SCRs shine. They deliver excellent grip during cornering and hard braking. The rear tyre’s wider knobs enhance acceleration grip, while the front tyre’s smaller knobs aid directional stability. Our test route included a 5km stretch of tarmac running through a small village, limiting the speeds we could achieve. While the grip levels were commendable, the tyres lacked feedback, which could partly be attributed to the rental motorcycles, which weren’t in the best condition.

Overall, the Trailhound SCRs are a viable option for scrambler-style motorcycles and soft-roaders that primarily stay on the tarmac but occasionally venture onto dirt trails. However, we’d have to spend more time with them to provide a more definitive verdict. They are currently available for bikes like the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, Interceptor 650, Scram 411, Scram 440, KTM 390 Adventure (2020-2024), KTM 390 Adventure X (2025) and Honda CB350 H’ness, to name a few. Prices range from Rs 4,000 to Rs 9,000 for an individual tyre, depending on the size.
