At its latest quarterly earnings call, Mahindra announced that it has about 16,000 pending orders of the XUV700 SUV; it has halved its backlog when compared to the last quarter. The company, on average, receives about 8,000 bookings per month for the XUV700.

    2. Gets monthly average bookings of 8,000 units

Mahindra has largely sorted out the issue of unusually long waiting periods that plagued the XUV700 for a very long time. Nearly all variants can be delivered in just a months’ time, with the top-spec AX7 L trim having a waiting period of just one and half months. At its peak, certain variants had their waiting period extending to well over a year.

Mahindra is understood to be manufacturing around 8,000 units a month, so demand and supply are at par. Some of Mahindra’s other popular SUVs such as the Thar and Scorpio N, have much larger order backlog and wait times.

The XUV700 is offered with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 200hp and 380Nm of torque, along with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine in two states of tune: 155hp and 360Nm in the entry-level variants, and 185hp and 420Nm (450Nm with AT) on the higher-spec variants. Both engines are available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the diesel engine gets an all-wheel drive option, and the SUV can be had with either 5-, 6- or 7-seater configurations.

The Mahindra XUV700 is priced from Rs 13.99 lakh-26.99 lakh (ex-showroom), and rivals the Tata Harrier and Safari, the MG Hector and Hector Plus, the Hyundai Alcazar, and the Jeep Compass.
