New Toyota mid-size SUV in the works

Toyota has begun work on an all-new global SUV model. This new SUV will sit below the funky CH-R crossover that is sold abroad. According to sources, development work on this SUV is still at a very early stage and details are scarce. This new SUV will be based on the brand’s newest TNGA-C architecture which underpins the Toyota Prius hybrid as well as the all-new Toyota Corolla yet to come to India.

This new model from Toyota will feature a more SUV-like styling as opposed to the funky crossover-coupé look seen on the CH-R. The model is likely to share its powertrain with the new Corolla; along with its underpinnings.

The new Toyota SUV is still some time away and will not be unveiled before mid-2020. Expect the new Toyota SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Juke and the Honda HR-V in international markets.

Closer to home, Toyota is readying two new model launches for India – a new hatchback based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and its first compact SUV which will be based on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
