The MotoGP grid was decked out in its Sunday best at the 2024 British GP to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the sport and at Silverstone, Enea Bastianini reigned supreme. Jorge Martin finished second, ahead of Francesco Bagnaia to regain the World Championship lead from the factory Ducati rider.

    1. Martin leads the standings by 3 points
    2. Bastianini victorious in both Sprint, main races

    The podium fight

Aprilia veteran Aleix Espargaro was in pole position, but the opening lap saw him get swallowed up by the hard-charging Ducati GP24s of Martin, Bagnaia and Bastianini. For the first half of the race, Bagnaia was in the lead with Martin and Espargaro trailing him.

However, once past the halfway point, Martin overtook the reigning World Champion and stayed in the lead for quite some time. The other factory Ducati rider, Enea Bastianini, is known to have good late race pace and that’s precisely what came into play here. In a matter of just a few laps, he dispensed with not just Bagnaia but also Martin to take the top step of the podium, just as he did in the Sprint race a day prior. With this victory, Bastianini becomes the tenth different race winner at Silverstone in the last ten GPs.

    2024 MotoGP championship standings

MotoGP will now head to the Red Bull Ring in Austria on August 16-18. Currently, Martin leads the standings with a slender three point lead over Bagnaia. With his strong performance this weekend, Bastianini has now jumped to third in the overall standings, pipping Marc Marquez in the process.
