Tata Motors recently revealed the Harrier and Safari facelifts with comprehensive updates to the exterior and interior. Mechanically, however, both SUVs continue to be powered by the same 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to either 6-speed manual or automatic gearboxes. Tata Motors has also revealed the claimed fuel efficiency figures for both SUVs, and there is a marginal improvement here too.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift mileage explained

The updated Harrier has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 16.80kpl for the manual, while the automatic returns 14.60kpl. With the previous quoted figures of 16.35kpl and 14.60kpl, respectively, the manual sees a marginal 0.45kpl improvement, while the automatic's remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, for the updated Safari, Tata Motors is claiming a fuel efficiency of 16.30kpl for the manual and 14.50kpl for the automatic, which is a marginal 0.14kpl and 0.42kpl improvement, respectively, over the pre-facelift models.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift mileage compared with rivals

The Harrier rivals the likes of the MG Hector and 5-seater versions of the Mahindra XUV700, while the Safari rivals the Hyundai Alcazar, the 7-seater XUV700 and the MG Hector Plus. Interestingly, the Harrier and Safari are the only ones here to solely offer diesel engines in the line-up.

MG claims a fuel efficiency figure of 15.58kpl for the diesel-MT variants of both the Hector and Hector Plus, which is slightly less than the diesel-MT Tatas. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Alcazar has a claimed figure of 18.1kpl for the diesel-MT and 20.4kpl for the diesel-AT, both of which are slightly more than the Harrier and Safari. We, however, do not have official efficiency figures of the diesel variants of the Mahindra XUV700.
