Launched on July 10, 2023, at an aggressive price of Rs 5.99 lakh, the Hyundai Exter has turned a year old. And till June-end of this year, Exter’s sales were just 6,338 units shy of the 1 lakh mark, giving Hyundai Motor India new power in the competitive Indian SUV market.

    1. Exter accounted for 18 percent of Hyundai's SUV sales in FY2024
    2. Led by strong demand, Hyundai has ramp up Exter's production
    3. Hyundai has launched Exter Knight Edition to celebrate Exter's first anniversary here

The Exter is Hyundai’s second offering in the compact SUV space, and it has become the third best-selling SUV for the Korean carmaker, after the market-leading Creta midsize SUV and the Venue. In FY2024, the Exter sold 71,301 units and accounted for 18 percent of Hyundai’s total SUV sales of 3,88,725 units.

The entry-SUV category within the sub-four-metre-SUV segment is witnessing strong demand, and the Exter’s aggressive pricing strategy has paid off. It is estimated that 20,000-22,000 entry SUVs are sold each month, and the Exter has made its mark there. In this ultra-competitive segment, which has 12 models, including the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, Maruti Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger, vying for a slice and more of the action, the Hyundai Exter did well to take seventh place in FY2024.

In the first (April-June) quarter of the ongoing fiscal year, with an estimated 22,361 units, the youngest Hyundai SUV comprised 22 per cent of Hyundai’s UV sales of 1,00,745 units. The Creta had a 46 per cent share with 46,402 units, and the Venue had a 28 per cent share with 28,337 units. And given the strong demand for the Exter, Hyundai Motor India has ramped up its production.

To celebrate Exter’s first anniversary in India, the company has brought out the Knight Edition for the SUV, which added two new colour options and a host of visual updates, outside and inside. The brand is working on bringing Alcazar facelift this year and the Creta EV in early 2025.
