Mahindra has applied for a series of trademarks for names that could possibly be used by its upcoming electric SUVs. The applications, filed as recently as earlier this week, include XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO and XUV 1XO.

    1. Mahindra applies for four new trademarks
    2. Could be production names for upcoming all-electric XUV or BE SUVs
    3. Names ending with O follows Mahindra’s traditional nomenclature

While no other details about the products have been revealed, the trademarks follow Mahindra’s traditional naming nomenclature. Similar to the Scorpio, Bolero and XUV700 (pronounced XUV seven-double-O), the XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO and XUV 1XO all end with an 'O'. The trademarks' status is 'Accepted & Advertised', which means that they have been published for public scrutiny and in case of opposition, a plea can be filed. This also means that the trademarks are yet to be registered completely.

The names could potentially be used for the production versions of EV derivatives of existing petrol and diesel Mahindra SUVs, or for the new range of electric SUVs coming soon from the XUV.e and BE family. While the fully electric version of the XUV700 that is based on the born-EV INGLO platform has been dubbed the XUV.e8 (a trademark was registered last year for the name), the latest trademark filings suggest that the company could adopt the revised nomenclature for its upcoming electric SUVs.

Mahindra’s current EV portfolio only consists of one offering – the XUV400. The Tata Nexon EV rival was recently updated with new features inside the cabin, and is currently priced from Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The XUV400 and the upcoming XUV300 EV might also be renamed, though there is no word on that front.
