The new Dzire continues to rival the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor and the Honda Amaze – the Amaze is also due to receive a generational update next month. The all-new Dzire gets its own unique design identity and more features compared to the Swift hatchback, and it's also the first Maruti to get a 5-star Global NCAP crash test rating.
New Maruti Dzire dimensions, design
The new Dzire is 3,995mm long, 1,735mm wide and 1,525mm high, with a 2,450mm wheelbase and a 163mm ground clearance. Dimensionally, except a 10mm increase in height, it is identical to the outgoing Dzire. Notably, the design is a complete departure from the outgoing model, and unlike the previous-gen models, it doesn’t share its looks with the Swift at all.
At the front, the new Dzire gets a flat hood with subtle creases at each corner. It gets stylish Audi-esque “Crystal vision” headlamps with blacked-out surrounds. The hexagonal grille is bigger and features five horizontal slats, with the top-most panel featuring a piano black finish with a chrome strip. In profile, the doors and fenders get more contoured surfaces and the alloy wheel design is new as well, with higher variants getting a diamond-cut pattern.
At the rear, the new Dzire gets a squarish tail-lamp design with “3D Trinity LED elements.” The bootlid design and bumper look similar to the predecessor’s, save for some new contouring lower down on the bumper.
New Maruti Dzire interior, features
While the overall design mimics the Swift hatchback's, it gets multiple colours and textures as opposed to the black and silver theme on the Swift. The upholstery is finished in beige while the dashboard gets dark brown, faux wood and silver trims. It gets the same 9-inch Smartplay Pro Plus unit seen on many other Marutis and gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity along with connected car features.
In a first for the Dzire – and the compact sedan segment – higher variants come with a factory-fitted single-pane sunroof. Additionally, the new Dzire also gets cruise control, rear AC vents, a rear centre armrest and a 360-degree camera.
New Maruti Dzire engine, specs
The new Dzire comes with the same 82hp, 112Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine as the Swift that also gets an idle start/stop feature. Gearbox choices include a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. On CNG, the engine produces 69.75hp and 101.8Nm.
New Maruti Dzire safety rating
The new Maruti Dzire has scored an impressive 5-star rating in adult occupant protection (AOP) and a 4-star safety rating for child occupant protection (COP) at GNCAP. This makes it the first Maruti to score a 5-star rating from Global NCAP. Safety features on the new Dzire include six airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, brake assist, three-point seat belts for all seats and ISOFIX mounts.
While the fourth-gen Dzire replaces the outgoing model for private buyers, the third-gen car will continue to be sold as the Dzire Tour for fleet owners.
