Maruti Suzuki has announced that its compact sedan, the Dzire, has crossed the 19 lakh sales milestone in India. Introduced in 2008, the Dzire has been a regular in the top 10 sales charts over the years and has remained a popular choice amongst buyers.

In FY2018-19, Maruti sold over 2.5 lakh units of the Dzire, averaging over 21,000 units in monthly sales. In fact, such is the popularity of the Dzire that it has a market share of 55 percent in the compact sedan segment, with a new one being sold every two minutes.

Speaking on the occasion, Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said: “The brand Dzire has been a major contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s journey and we express our gratitude to customers. With the launch of Dzire, we created a new ‘compact sedan’ segment. Over the years, Maruti Suzuki Dzire has led this growth and it continues to be relevant and attractive to customers. A testimony to its strong customer connect is that the sales of the third-generation model went up by nearly 20 percent. Interestingly, for half of the new Dzire customers, the compact sedan is their first car purchase. This shows a paradigm shift of the Indian customers who are ready to start their car ownership with a sedan”.

The Dzire is powered by a 75hp, 1.3-litre turbo-diesel and 83hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both engines can be had with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox.

In terms of price, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire range starts from Rs 5.70 lakh for the LXi variant and goes up to Rs 9.54 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec ZDi+ AGS variant. Maruti Suzuki retails the Dzire from its Arena chain of dealerships and it rivals other compact sedans like the Honda Amaze, the Ford Aspire, the Tata Tigor, the Volkswagen Ameo and the Hyundai Xcent.
