What is the advantage of buying a four-cylinder car? Which car is good for rear-seat comfort? My budget is below ₹12 lakh.

A four-cylinder engine is smoother, more refined and generally emits lower vibrations compared to a three-cylinder unit. On the other hand, a three-cylinder unit is likely to be more fuel efficient.
Since rear-seat comfort is your priority, you can consider the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. It is a spacious sedan with a comfortable backseat and excellent ride comfort.  If you're open to compact SUVs, the Kia Syros also offers a great backseat experience, and the HTK EX variant will fall within your Rs 12 lakh budget too.
Do keep in mind that both the options suggested have three-cylinder engines. If you insist on a four-cylinder petrol engine only, then you can consider a Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

We are a family of three planning to buy our first car with a budget of under Rs 10 lakh. Our priorities are safety, interior space and good after sales service in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Which car would you recommend?

We would recommend the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The car is very spacious and will be more than enough for your family of three. Moreover, it will meet your other two requirements for safety and good after-sales service.

Maruti has upped their safety game, and the new Dzire comes well equipped on the safety front and also scored a 5-star rating in both the BNCAP and GNCAP tests. And of course, being a Maruti car, you would have a wide dealer spread and a good service experience.

I need an automatic sedan with a limited budget and essential features. I am confused between the Maruti Dzire and the Hyundai Aura for 90% city use.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a better option than the Hyundai Aura. The Dzire is more spacious and comfortable, and its 1.2-litre petrol engine is a lot more efficient than the Aura's 1.2-litre petrol unit.

Both compact sedans get an AMT gearbox, but the Dzire's unit is a bit nicer in the city. Feature-wise, both compact sedans offer a decent equipment list. But the Dzire has the advantage with wireless connectivity and a sunroof for a more premium experience.

Moreover, the Dzire will hold its value a lot better, and it is the most economical car to own, especially for the city. The ride comfort is very good, the steering is light, and the efficiency is segment-best.

I have been driving a Ciaz diesel for 10 years. It is a super comfortable sedan with top-notch mileage till now. I now want to buy a new-age car with good mileage and features. My budget is under Rs 13 lakhs. Most of my driving is within the city, with a daily run of 30km. Please suggest.

Since you are coming from a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, you should consider the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. It is a smaller sedan than the Ciaz, but it offers a good balance of comfort, features, and efficiency.
The Dzire is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox. The Dzire petrol has a claimed mileage of 24.79kpl with the manual and 25.71kpl with the automatic.
The Dzire is also quite spacious for a compact sedan, and it offers a good amount of features, including a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a sunroof, auto climate control, and more. The sedan has even received a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP as well as Global NCAP.
Being a Maruti car, the Dzire is also reliable and will have a good resale value. Maruti Dzire prices range from Rs 6.26 lakh to Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom).

I would like to purchase a new car, the Tata Punch. I will use it for family trips of about 300 km per month. Punch or Dzire, please suggest.

The choice really comes down to your requirements. The Tata Punch is a good option for a family of four. It has a reasonably spacious cabin and a decent boot, and the ride quality is good, too. Its compact dimensions also make it easy to manage in crowded cities.
If, however, you have a larger family with grown-ups, you would be better off with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The cabin has more space, and for your highway drives, the larger boot could also come in handy.

Is it okay to upgrade my Swift Dzire’s 165/80 R14 tyres to 195/70 R14 for a slight increase in ground clearance? Please advise.

Yes, you can upsize the tyres of your Maruti Suzuki Dzire from 165/80 R14 to 195/70 R14. On account of the additional tyre height, your vehicle's ground clearance is likely to increase by approximately 9mm.
Do keep in mind that there will be a slight variance in your speed reading by 1.4%, which means that when your vehicle is being driven at 100kph, due to the upsized tyres, the speedometer will indicate 101.4kph. Also, due to the wider tyres, your car's fuel efficiency is likely to dip slightly.
At the time of installation, do check that the tyre doesn't foul with the body panels, either when the steering is turned fully on either sides, or with a full load of passengers in the rear.

I have been using a Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi for the past several years. It has crossed 1.45 lakh km and is a 2008 model. I wish to buy a new car. My major driving involves long trips with family or friends, while city usage is comparatively lower. My preferences are comfort for five persons, low maintenance, safety and efficiency. I can spend around Rs 10 lakh. Thanks in advance.

If you'd like to replace your Fiesta with another diesel car, the entry-level Tata Altroz Pure variant is your only option on this side of Rs 10 lakhs. The good news is that this car is spacious enough to accommodate five people. Its diesel engine is strong and very fuel-efficient. And it feels stable and planted on the highway. Moreover, the Tata car has a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash safety score too, and is equipped with all the modern safety features.
Alternatively, if you wish to opt for a petrol sedan, get the Maruti Suzuki Dzire for its spacious cabin, efficient petrol engine, and comfortable ride experience. With the Maruti, you can expect a trouble-free ownership experience too.

My daily running is around 70 km. I am planning to buy a new car under a Rs 10 lakh budget. I am confused between the Glanza, Taisor, Baleno, Dzire and Amaze.

Given your requirements, you should consider the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG. Since your daily running is around 70km, which is quite high, opting for a CNG car over petrol makes sense as the running costs are lower. The Dzire CNG comes with a 1.2-litre engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and has an excellent claimed mileage of 33.73 km/kg.
This Maruti car is also spacious, comfortable and has a good ride quality. The compact sedan also comes with features like a 7-inch touchscreen, auto climate control, alloy wheels, 6 airbags, and it has even received a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP. Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG prices range from Rs 8.03 lakh for the VXI variant to Rs 9.04 lakh for the ZXI variant (ex-showroom).

My daily running is around 50 km. I want to buy a new 5-seater car with automatic transmission and will occasionally do long-distance trips. My budget is ₹8 to ₹10 lakh. Could you please suggest which car I should go for?

You can consider the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. It is a spacious and practical compact sedan that is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired to a 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox.

The Dzire AMT is also a fuel-efficient car, with a claimed mileage of 25.71kpl, and it has received a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP. Maruti Suzuki Dzire price for the AMT range starts from Rs 7.62 lakh to Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

I am confused between the Baleno and the Dzire. We are a family of three (two adults and one child). Our usage will be mostly in the city with occasional trips 2-3 times a year, and the average running will be about 500 km per month. The cost difference between the Dzire and the Baleno is not large. We are considering the top variant with a 360-degree camera. Please help us choose between these two and suggest if there is any other better option available within an ₹11 lakh budget.

Considering your city usage and no mention of any preference for body style between the two, we would suggest going for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno as compared to the Dzire. Both cars are spacious and have a comfortable ride quality and are similar in terms of interior quality.

But the Baleno has two key advantages. The boot space is more usable thanks to it being a hatchbcak and you can also fold the rear seat for added luggage space, which makes it more practical when you need to carry long items or want extra luggage space.

The Baleno also uses the older 1.2 litre dual jet four cylinder engine, which is smoother and more powerful than the new 1.2 litre three cylinder engine on the Dzire. If you are looking for an automatic, the AMT gearbox also works better on the Baleno.

As an alternative, you could also consider getting the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. It is slightly more expensive but gives you a more SUV-like stance with better ground clearance and added road presence, while still being easy to drive in the city.
